Instructional Offerings - What to Bring

 

Bring all of your personal equipment, including appropriate boats and accessories to be on and in the water. Particularly for the ICE, it is assumed that Instructor Candidates will own or have access to all the necessary equipment (beg and borrow if you have to) suitable for your desired level of certification. Open Water Coastal Kayaking Candidates should own or have access to signaling devices, helmets, tow systems, radios, etc. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding equipment. Refer to the cover letter if you need information on available kayak rentals.

 

Minimum Gear Required for All Levels of Certification :

 

  • Kayak (with plenty of secure buoyancy fore and aft)
  • Personal Flotation Device (Lifejacket)
  • Kayak Paddle
  • Sprayskirt
  • Clothing and footwear suitable for the conditions (Wetsuit and/or Drysuit, etc.)
  • Sling
  • Pump
  • Paddlefloat
  • Whistle
  • Flashlight
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses with strap
  • Water (at least 3 quarts per day)
  • Food
  • Hat
  • Folding Chair for Breaks
  • Pencils and Paper
  • Reference Materials
Additional Gear If you are going for certification (ICE) in Basic or Open Water Coastal Kayaking it is expected that you either own or have access to the following equipment.
  • Accessible Spare Paddle
  • Flare Pack
  • Knife
  • Tow Belt or 25 Feet of Tow Line
  • Personal First Aid Kit
  • Weather Radio
  • Helmet
  • Chart of the Area
  • Chart Case
  • Compass (Orienteering style)
  • Cell Phone and/or VHF
  • Fog Horn
